Veteran Chartist Brandt Tilts Toward Gold as Bitcoin's Momentum Fades
Peter Brandt, the five-decade market chartist, says he is considering to sell his Bitcoin holdings to purchase physical gold, citing a shift in relative strength as Bitcoin drops 28% year-to-date versus gold's only 4.4% decline.
Veteran trader Peter Brandt, known for five decades of chart reading across asset classes, is rethinking his crypto exposure, and decides to go with gold.
Brandt disclosed he is considering offloading a portion of his Bitcoin holdings to acquire physical gold, arguing that the momentum which previously helped Bitcoin's multi-year over-performance over the yellow metal is now weakening. His view lands as a sobering signal for cryptocurrency bulls who have long banked on a great rotation out of gold and into digital assets.
The numbers support his case. Bitcoin has shed roughly 28% year-to-date, while gold has slipped a comparatively modest 4.4%. Brandt highlighted the XAU/BTC ratio, a chart tracking gold priced in Bitcoin, and noting that it has begun curling upward after more than a decade of steady decline.
His argument is simple: the momentum that helped Bitcoin dominate gold for years appears to be weakening, the report noted. Brandt is not forecasting Bitcoin's demise, but rather suggesting that gold may be reclaiming its traditional safe-haven role at a moment when crypto sentiment becomes more fragile.
As of this article's publication, Bitcoin traded near 63,000 while gold held around 4,128 per ounce. Brandt's posture is rooted in relative strength analysis, not ideology, which makes his gold-over-Bitcoin lean harder for crypto proponents to dismiss as simply gold-bug rhetoric.
The implication according to him is clear: if the XAU/BTC trend continues to reverse, institutional and retail capital that rotated aggressively into crypto over recent years could begin flowing back toward bullion, adding a new tailwind to gold's already resilient performance in 2026 when everybody else has shifted their investment toward AI.
