Brimstone and Century Aluminum Forge Aluminum Supply Pact in the U.S.
Brimstone and Century Aluminum signed an MoU to build a fully domestic aluminum supply chain, with Brimstone supplying alumina from a planned demonstration plant in Reno using calcium-bearing silicate.
Brimstone and Century Aluminum have decided to team up to build a fully American "mine to metal" primary aluminum production chain, the firms announced yesterday.
Under the agreement, Brimstone will deliver substantial quantities of smelter-grade alumina to Century Aluminum from its upcoming manufacturing facility. Brimstone expects the deal to accelerate the development of its commercial-scale plant, which is projected to come online by 2034 and produce roughly 350K metric tons of alumina every year.
A demonstration facility currently is still under construction in Reno, Nevada, and is slated to begin operations as early as 2028, Brimstone noted.
Instead of depending on bauxite, Brimstone's method taps a widely available calcium-bearing silicate rock, which can be found abundantly across the country. This approach sidesteps reliance on foreign ore imports for primary aluminum manufacturing.
The partnership arrives amid growing policy focus on reshoring critical mineral and metal supply chains within the United States.
